A delayed entry-HARI RAYA in KL

Ok. i know everyone must be wondering why has this blog come to a standstill...here are 5 reasons why-

1.i had to work till the eve of raya
2.three days of raya at home was like hosting somebody's wedding
3.back to work on 4th day of raya -hmmmcud have updated the blog then as i had the office all to myself then, but then again, haha...the more work there is, and no one to delegate it to
4.rushed back to penang on 6th Raya for about 4-5 days (didn't even have much opportunity to have my favourite foods...semuanya makan ketika menziarahi sanak saudara sahaja.oh wait...but we did have good Thai food at Siriwan one of the nights there)
5. upon returning to kl, the office open house was due in three days...press kits, RSVPs, itinerary, task delegation list...sigh. really, if i were obscenely rich, i would ..i would...just walk out.

Last year's raya was a blast coz it was shortly after my two months maternity leave and we spent almost a week in Penang! This year's not too bad as well.

Well, at least I had the privilege of enjoying these few things during the eve of and Hari Raya Aidilfitri:-

2 Days to Hari Raya....could not sleep until 1:00a.m. so went to damansara uptown with alfy and had kerang goreng chilli.

yummy.

Eve of Hari Raya.....dammit the obsession towards kerang kicked in again-no i am not pregnant, it's normal for me to have sudden urge over certain foods. so this time dragged Abg Ebi, Kak Ana, & Effie to Jalan Alor. Savoured some awesomely gewd siput sedut & fried oyster.

1st day Hari Raya.....late as usual, so Alfy dropped us off at the kubur and headed for his Raya prayers at the mosque nearby. Spent almost 1 1/2 hrs there before making it home to have the first nasi impit & kuah kacang of the day. By now Ebi & Shuriana were frantically aksing us why were we taking hours to get to Nirwana from Melawati. Made it to Ebi's parents place filled with all sorts of good food. Lontong was fantastic. Rendang paru sedap gila. Trying hard to save some space for later. At kg.pandan, mama's lamb kuzi was unforgettable. and of course the not-to-be-missed soto was the perfect indulgence. Before balik rumah singgah at Pak Akob's place but he was not around. His daughters served us another round of shall we say 4th round of nasi impit & rendang of the day? Home was so near yet so far. Made another quick stop at Aunty Zain's house. Another bite I will explode to pieces. But hey, that's unlikely to happen right? right?...next thing i knew i was having satay & sup ekor. ok. time to go home now coz apparently Aunty Yam & family had made their way there. Sembang punya sembang, nyanyi punya nyanyi, tau-tau dah nak dekat malam. so that was the first day. filled with lovely food & people.

eiman's excitement menjelang raya

whatever happened to those days when lampu lip lap was the most beautiful thing to look at.or when main bunga api was one of the must-haves during raya.or when duit raya was like for me to buy a nice bucket of kentucky fried chicken...

well, perhaps this is another sign of ageing. no, wait. i dont think so. i think it's work. it's the darn office making me feel like raya is a long, long way to go. can't wait for friday to come...aaaaaa

at least looking at eiman made me rekindle nice thoughts of how much fun i had zaman kecik2 depan kedai minah main bunga api satu beg besaq...(courtesy of arwah ba bakar)

check out eiman's excitement when we put up the lights at the balcony last nite.

CALLING all karaoke lovers! You can now harness your vocal prowess anywhere and anytime by connecting to a television set, without having to lug around a DVD (digital versatile disc) player and karaoke discs.
All you have to do is to carry along a microphone with 2,064 built-in songs and karaoke functions, connect it to a television set and, voila, the song and lyrics appear on screen.

Called Magic Sing, the portable karaoke set was invented by South Korean firm, Enter Tech Co Ltd, which is listed on Kosdaq (equivalent to Nasdaq in the US and Mesdaq in Malaysia).

Enter Tech’s Asean representative, Bill Ko, said the company is a pioneer in the new karaoke technology, which is set to revolutionise the next-generation karaoke equipment.

“We already have 50 per cent market share in Japan (which invented the karaoke) and sold US$65 million (RM222 million) worth of the product last year to 54 countries,” Ko told Business Times.

The all-in-one digital karaoke microphone is distributed locally by Voice Creations Sdn Bhd, endorsed by its director, local jazz and swing crooner Sharizan Borhan.

Magic Sing can be upgraded to include thousands more songs than the built-in 2,064 English songs through the purchase of additional song microchips made by the company and sold at selected outlets: In-Q Box in 1Utama shopping centre, CMY Audio and Visual in Sungai Wang Plaza, Tong Lee Co in Low Yat Plaza and online at Malaysia Airlines Temptations.

Magic Sing also has a built-in scoring system to rate one’s performance, a contest programme, random play, adjustable tempo, pitch, echo, four slots for optional song chips, volume control and song key change functions.

Retailing at RM988 apiece, Magic Sing comes with a fashionable and compact carry bag, background scenery, a microphone stand, cable and adapter, song list and a user’s manual.

when ebi becomes nana tanjung and nani finally makes makmor

hari raya is just around the corner so i have decided not to spoil the festive mood. and that includes not to entertain nana tanjung's remarks about me not needing a maid when i move to penang.

as far as i can recall, i did survive without a maid for quite sometime...at least about two, three months or so. hmm...but then like i said earlier, i am willing to let nana tanjung get off the hook this time, only because i have found an interest to do something else right now...

earlier today yuz and i were talking about my the prospects of me relocating. while weighing the pros & cons, the conversation somehow took on a different route altogether-what are we cooking for raya (this is another one-of-those-not-perculiar-thing-to-happen-in-a-jhora-family). the good news is i get to have mama kg pandan's soto (yummy) which i remembered lasted me the entire day last raya haji. and then we talked about papa's favourite kuih raya-makmor. so i told her not to worry coz mama (that's my mil) already made him some.

when the call ended i rushed out to ask mama exactly how many she made for him. mama said "Banyaak.Ada dalam seratus biji". Uh-huh.somebody mustv'e forgotten to relay an important info to her. seratus biji would mean it would be gone even before puasa enam habis.you see, if i'd known my uncle well, there are only two things that he looks forward to eating during raya. and that is kuih makmor and kuih kapit...so, due to the unavailability of kuih kapit, i suppose we can make it up to him by supplying more kuih makmor. time to get my hands dirty...

obviously, mama's version of kuih makmor is very much fit for fine dining, while mine is err...tastes ok la but just close your eyes and pop 'em in!

my reflection

as i explore new topics to write about, i could not help thinnking about the things eiman and i have in common. well, for a start, he has alfy's features but my hair-of all things; curly, ruffled and difficult to manage.

his rebelliousness is becoming more prominent by the day-and that's like my trademark in the family, if you ask anyone.

but the most significant would have to be our LOVE for food. seriously, i never knew my son had it in him. i mean, eiman has been feeding on porridge most of the time, but lately he's been snacking a lot! they say it's that growing up phase, but err...to have dinner at 6:30p.m. and then mintak disuap again when we berbuka...he even gets up for sahur once in a while!

his interest in food made me feel sorry that he has to eat that lousy-oh-my-maid-is-so-lazy-she-cooks-the-same-thing-everyday-for-him. so i thought i'd try something new ...just to see if he'd like a change of menu. i cooked spaghetti bolognaise and wala...he shed a tear when i told him it's finished!! that's like typical me 15 years ago!
so it ended up i had to cook another round of spaghetti...err..to satisfy both actually-son and dad.

check out at eiman's new indulgence...

"yummy. Why'd she make me wait more than a year for this?? really mom, i can take in a lot more than you think."

well.....to come to think of it, that can be quite true. when he was about 9 months old, we took him to tesco ampang to shop for groceries. we didn't realise what eiman's been up to until we reached the counter. take a look below.

there is one thing though that i don't quite understand how come eiman's got the habit. whenever he is falling asleep, he likes to slide his arms in and out, underneath you. now, that is something neither mummy nor daddy does. but i know who to blame for that. no other than my couz, cik yang peruz.
